Why participate in the Music Program?
There is now abundant research showing that music brings a great range of benefits to young people. Music-making has unique effects on brain development, integrating the activity of many different areas of the brain.
Research demonstrates that effective music education commonly lifts the self-confidence of students and increases student performance in general, with some research indicating accelerated learning in other subjects. Music education can also lead to greater creativity, which is highly prized in our society and culture. Furthermore, young people develop better social and emotional skills.
We pride the program on inclusivity of all students who want to have a go, with a focus on team-work and the social comradery that our students experience and share through the ensembles on offer at the college. There are a range of ensembles that rehearse and perform regularly throughout the year, including the following:
What Instruments are available?
We have a range of instruments available for tuition and specialist instrumental teachers at the college:
Brass: Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, French Horn, Euphonium
Woodwind: Flute, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Bass Clarinet
Guitar: Classical, Electric, Bass Guitar, and Double Bass
Piano & Keyboard
Drums & Percussion
Vocal/Voice
Music Performance Opportunities:
There is a range of performance opportunities provided to students who learn an instrument and participate in the ensembles program. Past performances include: College Assemblies, College Open Night, Semester Progress Music Concerts, Royal South Street Bands Competition – Ballarat, College Awards Night, Cranbourne Park Shopping Centre, Singfest, Region Bandfest events, Royal Navy Band Melbourne workshop, Frankston Special Development School performances, Seniors Morning Tea – Lyrebird Centre and visits to local primary schools.
